The excavation site, for the museum,
near the German border, in southern Denmark.
Map of the site. Orange lines indicate a building. Green lines
indicate another building,
likely in use at an earlier time, before the other was erected. The round
yellow circles indicate
work houses, possibly a weaving room, and a blacksmith's.
The outlines of the two buildings drawn on the map can be seen, as darkened
lines. These are the
walls of the structures.
This is a post hole. The wood that once was there now appears as a
darker shade of colour.
A small sample is scraped into a container, to be carbon dated. It is possible
to date a post, very
accurately, with this method.
Klaus, in the green sweater, who was kind enough to take some time to explain all of this to us!
